Germs Trump ‘Five Second Rule’
October 19, 2012 - 2:38 pm | Category: Health
We’ve all heard about the five-second rule. It’s when you drop food on the floor and then pick it up and eat it anyway, thinking you have at least five before germs can get to it.
Well, turns out those germs are determined little buggers – and attach almost immediately.
As a part of a study, co-founded by Clorox, researchers at San Diego State University dropped carrots on several surfaces and then compared them to a clean carrot.
“Researchers found that germs affixed themselves to the carrots within five seconds of contact with different surfaces.”
FYI: 65 percent of parents actually use the five second rule in their home.
