FACE-CHEWING VICTIM: Speaks About Ordeal

Ronald Poppo, the homeless man whose face was chewed nearly off in a horrifying Memorial Day Weekend attack, has spoken about the ordeal.

The interview was conducted by Miami homicide detectives on July 19th, nearly two months after Rudy Eugene attacked Poppo, leaving him blind and disfigured and was released Wednesday night. In the interview, Poppo says, “He attacked me. He just ripped me to ribbons. He chewed up my face. He plucked out my eyes. Basically, that’s all there is to say about it.”

Initial reports suggested that Euguene was under the influence of bath salts when he attacked Poppo, but toxicology tests only turned up marijuana in his system.

Although he was severely injured, Poppo is thankful to the Miami Police Department, saying, “If they didn’t get there in the nick of time, I would’ve definitely been in worse shape. Possibly I’ll be DOA.”
