President Obama is hoping that independent voters, and even some Republicans, will lift him to re-election in November, but on Sunday he literally got a lift from a registered Republican pizza shop owner.
Scott Van Duzer, the owner of Big Apple Pizza and Pasta in Fort Pierce, Florida, was so happy to see the president visit his shop on his bus tour that he gave Obama a bear hug and lifted him off the ground.
Prior to the embrace the president noted that Duzer was the “biggest pizza shop owner I’ve ever seen” and complimented him on his “big guns.” After the hug and lift, Obama asked 46-year-old who stands six-foot-three and weighs in at 260, “Man, are you a powerlifter or what?
Van Duzer got a heads up 40 minutes before the president arrived and rushed to the shop from the driving range. He said he was “just overcome with excitement” when he hugged the president and added, “I don’t vote party line, I vote who I feel comfortable with, and I do feel extremely comfortable with him.”
