MITT ROMNEY: Receives 2-Hour Intelligence Briefing
September 18, 2012 - 3:22 pm | Category: Politics
Both CNN and Fox News report this morning that Governor Mitt Romney sat down with intelligence officials last night at FBI headquarters in Los Angeles.
The candidate’s press secretary confirmed that Romney “met with members from the intelligence community”.
This is standard procedure for presidential candidates as the general election approaches. The briefings are similar in scope to what the sitting president sees daily. Four years ago, both Barack Obama and John McCain got regular intelligence updates. First, the candidate must be a major party nominee, then pass scrutiny of a security clearance to be trusted with the nation’s most top secret intelligence.
Romney was in California last night for a fundraiser. He also hastily called a press conference to address criticisms of a leaked video. After the fundraiser, he sat down with intelligence officials.
