Detroit Tigers’ Miguel Cabrera is 15th player in history to win MLB Triple Crown

Professional baseball has a triple-crown winner for the first time in 45 years, after the Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera topped the American League in batting average, home runs and runs batted in.

Earlier in the day on Wednesday, Cabarera wrapped up the home run and RBI crowns after the Texas Rangers’ Josh Hamilton was unable to hit a homer or knock a run in during the Rangers’ loss to Oakland. Cabrera finished the season with 44 home runs and 139 RBIs, while Hamilton ended up with 43 homers and 128 RBIs.

The batting title was a little trickier, as Los Angeles Angels star rookie Mike Trout finished his season going two-for three, ending with a .326 average. Cabrera was having a bad game against the Kansas City Royals, going 0-for-two in four innings, but then he got a helping hand from manager Jim Leyland, who pulled him out of the game with his average still at .330, leaving him the best in the majors.
