It’s official. Drew Brees signed a new $100-million contract with the New Orleans Saints Sunday after verbally agreeing to the deal on Friday. The new deal gives the star quarterback the highest average yearly pay in NFL history.
Brees’s signing comes during a turbulent offseason for the Saints, who have been rocked by the bounty-gate scandal after it was discovered that Saints defenders were offered cash rewards for injuring their rivals.
Bress said of his signing, “It’s been a little surreal just because of the process throughout the offseason, and just how challenging an offseason it’s been for everyone, obviously everyone within the Saints organization, this city. It’s just been a crazy offseason and I think we’re all just ready to get back to work and excited that it’s all starting here in a week. It’s hard to believe.”
