JOHNNY PESKY: Beloved Red Sox Icon Dies at 92

Johnny Pesky, who played, coached, managed and broadcast for the Boston Red Sox, but was best known as the club’s good-will ambassador, died Monday at age 92.
A talented infielder who lost three years of his career serving in World World Two, the Oregon native was a lifetime. 307 hitter playing alongside such stars as Ted Williams, Bobby Doerr and Dom DiMaggio. He became a Boston favorite for his ability to hit home runs in Fenway Park’s right field corner. He was so proficient that the foul pole there became known as the Pesky Pole.
He was also known for mentoring up-and-coming young players as Jim Rice, Wade Boggs and Dustin Pedroia. Pesky remained an active member of the organization until the end of his life. He took part in April’s ceremonies honoring the 100th anniversary of Fenway Park.
