OLYMPICS: Empty-Seat Controversy Continues

July 31, 2012 - 2:21 pm | Category: Sports

If you’ve been watching the Olympics on TV, you’ve probably noticed a lot of empty seats at the venues in London. Now, after public outcry from fans shut out of the games, the organizers of the London 2012 Olympics are asking sports federations to return any tickets they’re not going to use.

Now that the plan is in effect, about 3,000 tickets were recovered on Sunday and sold through the official London 2012 website. The move comes after politicians, sporting associations and even the athletes themselves have been angered over empty seats. Irish swimmer Barry Murphy wrote on Twitter, “Hundreds of empty seats again in the Aquatic Center. My parents would’ve given an arm and leg to get in.”
