As expected, Samsung on Thursday unveiled a scaled-down version of its flagship Galaxy S III smartphone at an event in Germany.

The Samsung Galaxy S III mini sports a 4-inch Super AMOLED display with a WVGA resolution of 800-by-480 pixels. It runs the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and has a dual-core 1GHz chip. Samsung did not reveal whether the device would be available in the U.S., or pricing information.

“The Galaxy S III introduced a new concept of smartphone that has proven hugely popular around the world,” JK Shin, president and head of Samsung’s IT and mobile communications division, said in a statement. “We’re now delighted to bring its revolutionary design, intuitive usability and intelligence to the Galazy S III mini in a more compact form.”
