The New York Police Department is taking on Twitter after the social network refused their request to identify a user who threatened an attack “just like in Aurora” at the Broadway theater currently showing Mike Tyson’s one-man show.
On August 1st, the anonymous user tweeted, “This [crap] ain’t no joke yo I’m serious people are gonna die just like in Aurora.”
The NYPD found out about the threat on August 3rd and requested information on the user from the social network. In a statement, NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said, “Twitter turned us down, so we dispatched police to cover the theater while we sought a subpoena to force Twitter to disclose the identity of the account holder.”
